According to Grose's 'A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue', a Jemmy Fellow is a 'smart spruce fellow.'
Engraved version in the British Museum (BM Sat 7782). The figure in the print is in a very similar pose, but has his hand in trouser, not waistcoat pocket and does not have a dog. |
