DescriptionCharles was the second son of James Farewell Wright of Sheffield. His elder brother John Farewell died in 1864. James Farewell Wright had inherited half of the Eyam estate; the remainder had passed to his brother John Wright and to John's unmarried daughters, including Harriet Elizabeth Wright (1845-1915), with whom Charles corresponded frequently on estate matters.

Charles gained a BA from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1862 and a MA in 1870. He was curate of St Peter's, Sheffield, from 1863 to 1866, was appointed as the first vicar of the church of St Silas, Sheffield, in 1866, was Vicar of Doncaster from 1878 to 1886, and finally Rector of Stokesley, North Yorkshire, from 1886 until his death in 1903. He was also a Canon of York and Prebendary of Osbaldwick.

He married Charlotte Elizabeth Jervis in 1863 and had a son, William Peter, and a daughter, Emily Georgina.
