Description | For most of the history of the Wright properties, the Great Longstone and Eyam estates were held by different branches of the family. Both families descended from William Wright of Great Longstone (died 1656). The estates were brought back into common ownership between 1771 and 1796 on the extinction of the Great Longstone line, but were separated again by the sale of Eyam Hall by John Thomas Wright to his cousin James Farewell Wright. The Eyam estate was finally brought back into the hands of the Great Longstone branch on the death of Charles Sisum Wright in 1985. |
