Administrative HistoryIn 1958 the staff of the boiler shop at Derby railway locomotive works decided to have an annual outing. The initiators were known as 'the pioneers'. At first, the outing was a half-day, a Saturday afternoon. When Saturday working ceased, it became possible to plan for a weekend away. Outings were arranged to a number of coastal resorts, taking advantage of the rail travel concessions enjoyed by railway personnel. Attendance was by invitation only. Numbers grew to 25 or 26, but declined in the 1990s after the closure of the works. These photographs record the outings from about 1960 to 1998 and include photos of the celebration cakes for the 25th and 40th anniversaries.
