Administrative History
The first shafts at Markham were sunk in the 1880s. There were formerly three separate collieries named Markham (nos 1, 2 and 3), sharing surface facilities. The collieries were combined in 1967. Markham Colliery was closed in 1994.
Custodial History
These records were transferred from Chesterfield Museum in September 2000.
