Administrative History | A National School was built in Heanor in 1848 and enlarged in 1890 for girls and infants. In 1915 a new Council School was built in Loscoe Road for senior boys and girls, junior girls and infants. In 1958, the schools were re-organised, and the Loscoe Road Boys Council School became William Howitt Junior Mixed School (later Junior Community School). The Howitt Secondary School was opened in 1958 but closed in 1964, when the new comprehensive school was built at Heanor Gate. |
