Peak Park Planning Board and Derbyshire County Council
Administrative History
The Board was established under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act of 1949 and took over the work of the old Peak Park Joint Planning Committee which had existed since 1935. The Board was made up of representatives from Derbyshire County Council and selected district councils. It was reconstituted as a Joint Planning Board in 1973 to take account of the new county and district council structures.
These files predominantly relate to the membership and reconstitution of the Board, and consist of correspondence and working papers accumulated by the Clerks to Derbyshire County Council in the course of their dealings with the Board. From 1973 to 1974 the files include papers of the Chief Executive of the New Derbyshire County Council. For a period in the early 1970s the Clerk of the Council (who later became the Chief Executive) was also Clerk to the Peak Park Planning Board and this dual role is reflected in the surviving paperwork.
