Administrative HistoryIn 1855 St Peter's National School was set up in Devonshire Street, but in 1873 it was transferred to Derby School Board. From 1877 to 1879 it was known as Borough Walks School. In 1879 the school moved to new premises at Traffic Street and became known as Traffic Street School. The school was for boys and girls, combined into a mixed school in 1897, with a separate junior department. From 1916 to 1933 there were separate schools for boys and girls, which then amalgamated to form a Junior Mixed School. The school was renamed Castle in 1953. The Infant School joined the Junior School in 1966.

Its connection in the mid-nineteenth century with another school, which became St Peter's School (refs D3841, D5403) is unclear.
Custodial HistoryThese records were transferred to Derbyshire Record Office in November 1999, April 2000, January 2001 and February 2003.
