Administrative History
In the 18th century special Acts of Parliament were passed in many areas of the country establishing turnpike trusts which had powers to collect tolls in exchange for providing and maintaining a road. The Nottingham and Ilkeston Turnpike Trust was established by a Local Act of Parliament in 1764. It was wound up in 1874.

These items were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office in July 1999.
