Sends copy (on reverse) of letter of the same date from Busby to Messrs Cobb and Southey (Solicitors, Westminster and Lincolns Inn Fields) requesting that they draft a petition, with the possibility that it might be signed at a meeting of influential Liberal party members in Bakewell, scheduled for Thursday [17th December]. Grounds cited to include bribery, treating by agents (possibly also by the candidate himself), threats, promises, acceptance of unqualified votes for Arkwright and rejection of good votes for [William] Jackson (the defeated Liberal candidate and MP for the consituency from 1865-1868), 12 Dec
