Description | In 1817 Donkin assisted three of his pupils, Palmer, Morris and Ashwell, to support a small society to discuss matters connected with the engineering profession. He also secured Telford to give the society his patronage and to become the first president in 1820. The Society later developed into the Institution of Civil Engineers |
