DescriptionThis map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:

Compleat Mapp of the Lordship of Allestrey near Derby, being in part the Estate of Edward Mundy Esqr. of Shipley in Derbyshire. Survey'd and Delineated by John Grundy Senr. and John Grundy Jnr. of Congestone in the County of Leicester, Land Surveyors and teachers of the Mathematics. Anno D. 1737. Surveyor: John Grundy, snr. John Grundy, jnr. Scale: Scale of 24 Chains and Links by which the Map is Plotted [1:3200]. Size: 91 x 107 cm. Materials: coloured ink on paper. Centred on: SK 348397 Notes: 16 point compass rose, WNW at top of sheet. Estate map showing unenclosed fields with names, furlongs, lands and closes: reference numbers and letters, coloured for tenants, single line boundaries: houses and buildings in block diagram: church in perspective: ornamental gardens, hedgerows, wood: River Derwent, named roads, 2 gated: adjoining lordships: boundary colouring, finely executed shading, foliage decorated cartouche: a reference grid of 1¼ inch squares drawn over map, giving 1-27 east and 1-22 north. M. Beresford in 'The pre-enclosure parish', Derbyshire Countryside, 17 (1948); 210-211, refers to this map, noting the still visible evidence of open fields in Allestree.
