| Administrative History | George Gather began working for the firm in 1863 at the age of 13. He became Works Manager and General Manager. In 1895 he was taken into partnership and in 1905, when the business was incorporated as a limited company, he was appointed Chairman and Managing Director. Following an illness, he resigned as Managing Director in 1908, but remained as Chairman until his death in 1928. |
