TitleSick Fund accounts and details of "invalids" adopted by various branches from 1896 to 1913, with a list of pre-1896 adoptions
Date1885-1979
DescriptionThe term "adoptions" is used in this volume in cases where a girl suffering from long-term illness was helped by members of another branch of the Girls' Friendly Society. Some of those listed are residents of Buxton who have been offered help by branches elsewhere in the country, and some are people from elsewhere being assisted by the Buxton branch members. Each entry gives the adoptee's name, address, date of birth, branch/parish/diocese, name of branch representative and the name of the associate responsible, and details of the other branch concerned. It also gives a brief resume of the illness, the type of help supplied (typically "letters, friendship, flowers, gifts, intercessory prayer") and further details. The list of pre-1896 adoptions is simpler, recording each girl's name, her branch, the branch adopting her and the reason for the adoption's cessation (e.g. "died", "recovered").
