Archive CreatorOld Chapel (Unitarian), Great Hucklow
Administrative HistoryThe Old Chapel (Unitarian) traces its beginnings to the presbyterian chapel built at Grindlow in 1696, and attracted members from Malcoff (Chinley), Bradwell, Buxton and Ashford-in-the-Water. The first minister was William Bagshawe, (known as the 'apostle of the Peak') who had been ejected from his ministry at Eyam following the Act of Uniformity of 1662.
A new chapel was built c.1786. A vestibule and gallery was added in 1901. From 1981 members of the Old Chapel began to attend the Uniterian Chapel.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office in April 1996. Additional records were received in November 2016 (see D4463/UL).
