| Administrative History | Ashe Hall Special School was opened in 1951 and closed in 1995.
Ashe Hall was completed in 1869 and became home to the Buckston family of Sutton. Following a period as a boarding school for boys, 1920 to 1939, the Hall was used as a World War II Red Cross auxiliary hospital. The hall was acquired in 1945 by Derby Borough Council for adaptation into a special school for "delicate children" of both sexes, aged 5-16. Extensive alterations, repairs and re-decoration was needed and it was not until 6 April 1951 that the school was officially opened, with the first intake of children being admitted on 7 May 1951. Ashe Hall School passed into the control of Derbyshire Local Education Authority following local government reorganisation in 1974. The decision was taken to close the school with effect from 31 August 1995..
In 1996 the Ashe Hall and grounds were purchased by Tara Buddhist Centre.
