Administrative HistoryWesleyan Methodists had worshipped in Church Gresley since the early 19th century. From 1866 to 1880 the society had the use of the 'Pool Works' chapel. In 1881 a schoolroom was built adjoining the cemetery in Church Gresley and was used for services as well as Sunday School activities. A purpose-built church accommodating 450 people was opened in May 1898 and extended in 1914. The congregation amalgamated with the former Primitive and United Methodist chapels in April 1967. The Church Gresley Methodist Church continued to meet on the same site in York Road, in a new building (date of construction unknown).

York Road Methodist Church was part of the Woodville and Swadlincote Methodist Circuit until 1955, and was thereafter part of the South Derbyshire Methodist Circuit.
Custodial HistoryThe records were deposited by the Superintendent Minister of the South Derbyshire Methodist Circuit in 1983 and re-accessioned in 1995. Further consignments were received in January 2000, September 2002 and August 2019.
