Administrative History
Throughout the medieval period, Melbourne was the site of a royal castle and the manor was held by the Crown. Settlements within the manorial jurisdiction included lands in Kings Newton, Chellaston, Swarkestone, Osmaston by Derby and Normanton by Derby.
Custodial History
This single parchment membrane was sold to a private individual in 1944 and acquired by the Record Office in September 1993. Its provenance prior to this is unknown.
