Administrative HistoryThe Staveley Iron and Chemical Co Ltd was incorporated as a private company in Sep 1948 for the purpose of acquiring from the Staveley Coal and Iron Co Ltd the undertaking consisting of iron ore and iron production, iron founding, the generation of electricity, the manufacture of chemicals, and the ownership and operation of housing estates.
The works were divided into the Devonshire Works and the foundries. The Devonshire Works included a coke oven plant and blast furnaces. There were also a large plant producing chemicals derived from three carbonisation of coal and an electrolytic chemical plant. The foundries included metal and sand spun plants. The company also operated a brickyard and two ironstone mines. In addition it owned six subsidiary companies;

The Cranford Ironstone Co Ltd
The Pitsford Ironstone Co Ltd
The Staveley Iron and Chemical (Canada) Ltd
The Dunston Iron Co Ltd
In 1951 the shares of The Staveley Iron and Chemical Co Ltd were transferred to The Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain under the provisions of the Iron and Steel Act, 1949.
