Administrative HistoryThe first Primitive Methodist Church in Chesterfield opened in 1827 at Brampton, when Methodism was already well established in the area. In 1888, the Chesterfield Primitive Methodist Circuit split into three:

Chesterfield 1st Circuit, including Holy Well Cross, Brimington, Brimington Common, Stonegravels, New Brampton and Derby Lane Misson. This later became the Holywell Cross and Staveley Circuit (see D1831).

Chesterfield 2nd Circuit, including Mount Zion, Hasland, Brampton, Holymoorside, Cutthorpe, Wadshelf, Calow Green, Barlow and Newbold. This later became the Mount Zion Circuit and subsequently amalgamated with the Saltergate Circuit in 1950 (see D1831 and D3458).

Chesterfield 3rd Circuit, including Whittington Moor, Whittington, Apperknowle, Barrow Hill, New Whittington, Sheepbridge and Unstone. Most of these joined the Mount Zion Circuit after the unification of the main streams of Methodism in 1932.
