Related MaterialSee DCC/RG/3/1 and D3346 for records of the Derby and South Derbyshire Coroner. See DCC/RG/3/3 for records of the Chesterfield Coroner.

Very few earlier records have survived for the Derbyshire Coroners. There are a small number of inquests between 1877 and 1890, see Q/SS/1/1-38. The Quarter Sessions collection also contains Coroners’ expense claims between 1754 and 1869, arranged by hundred and coroner, and often giving the place of inquest, name of victim, mileage and sometimes verdict, see Q/AF/8/1-41.

See also collection D6144 Rowbothams & Co. of Derby, solicitors which includes three expense ledgers kept by William and William Harvey Whiston when they were County Coroners between 1832 and 1916. The ledgers often include similar information to the expense claims under Q/AF/8.
