Administrative History | Rebecca Fowler, a spinster of the parish of St Werburgh, directed that a sum of £116 be used, after her death, to purchase land to be used to educate 14 poor children living in the parish of St Werburgh to read English. This was carried out in an original trust deed of 1711, by which the trustees purchased land at Alvaston and used the profits and rents for the purposes intended. Trustees usually included the vicar of St Werburgh and parishioners. The charity continued on into the twentieth century but was formally discontinued in the 1990s when a new trust, Rebecca's Trust was formed. |
