DescriptionCopy recorded as agreeing with the original by Robert Hopkin, 20 Oct 1691. The map shows field names (some with acreages), houses and other landmarks such as trees and streams. There is some ornamentation: a pair of callipers for scale (1 inch: c11 chains), a compass, an unidentified heraldic shield and a border of branches bearing berries around the map's title (underneath which are added the names of Fr Revell and Geo Hopkinson). It is endorsed with certification as to its agreeing with the original in the Duchy Chamber [i.e. Duchy of Lancaster] by Jo Stafford (?) and Jos (?) Fletcher, 30 Dec 1732. It is also endorsed, halfway-down with "Mr George Bower of Aspinshaw"

This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:

Copy of 'A True map or plot of the divisions of the wasts and commons within the Hamblets of Beard, Bugsworth, Whytle and Thornsett within the township of Bowden Midlecale within the Forest of High Peak in the County of Derby. Made by Thomas Hibbert and Samuel Barton Surveyors And delivered to the Commissioners the three and twentieth day of Aprill Anno Dom. 1640' of original by Robert Hopkin 1691. Surveyor:[Thomas Hibbarte and Sam. Barton].Scale: of 30 chains [1:8250]. Size: 68 x 89 cm. Materials: ink and colour on parchment, some fold marks and damage. Centred on: SK0187 Notes: east at top. Well drawn houses with owner's names, hamlets, standing stones, the Abbot's Chair and landscape features, ponds and streams marked in blue: fields shown with acreage, marked 'tenants' or 'King's part': 'Ancient land called Beardhaugh': 'Worst' and 'Middle sort of land': endorsement, very faded, 'Mr. George Bower of Aspinshaw' and further note partly illegible.
