Administrative HistoryThe records of the Sawley Infant and Nursery School, Wilmot Street include those of its predecessors, namely Sawley National, later Church of England, Schools and Sawley Baptist Schools.

A school was first established in 1771, but moved as a National School to new premises in 1859. There were two departments, for Juniors and Infants, which were also known later as Sawley Church of England Schools.

Sawley Baptist School was established in 1850. It had two departments for Mixed (Juniors) and Infants, which kept two separate series of log books until 1902, when the Infants ceased to be separate.

In 1926 there was a reorganization of schools, with the site of the Church of England Schools becoming Sawley Senior School and and the site of the Baptist School becoming Sawley Council Junior and Infant School. In 1961 Sawley Infant School was built at Wilmot Street.
Custodial HistoryThe records were deposited in the Derbyshire Record Office between October 1991 and October 2006.
