Administrative History | In 1900-1901 a new elementary school known as Central was built in Ashgate Road, Chesterfield, as a continuation of Durrant Road School. In 1922 it acquired a Senior Boys' Department. After reorganisation in 1930-1931 the site was used for a senior Boys and senior Girls School, known as Central Girls/Boys Modern School. The school's name changed, probably in the 1940's, to Harry Cropper School, in honour of Alderman Cropper who was a long-serving member of the Education Committee. It ceased being a separate school in the early 1960's when it amalgamated with Manor Old Road School to become Manor School.
Old Road School was built in 1900-1901 to accommodate infants and juniors. By 1924 there was also Old Road Mixed Modern School for seniors. New buildings for the seniors were provided in 1930-31. The school became Manor Old Road School in 1947 and Manor School in the early 1960s when it amalgamated with Harry Cropper School. It became Manor Community School in the 1980s.
Under the reorganisation of secondary schools in the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Education Area it ceased being a separate school in August 1991 and amalgamated with Chesterfield Boys' School and St Helena's Girls School to become Brookfield Community School. |
