Archive CreatorFirs Estate, later Abbey Street, then Rykneld, School, Derby
Administrative HistoryAs the register marked Firs Estate is also stamped Abbey Street School, it seems that the Senior Boys moved from Firs Estate (now a primary school) to Abbey Street in the late 1930's or 1940's. Abbey Street Secondary Modern School closed in 1952 when its pupils transferred to the newly-built Rykneld Secondary Modern School. In 1977 Rykneld was amalgamated with Bemrose School, with the Lower School using the Rykneld building until it moved to new premises on the same site as the Upper School in 1990. At that date the building became a support and resources centre, but is now Derby Independent Grammar School.
Custodial HistoryThe records were transferred in June 1991 and September 2022.
