Administrative HistoryBorn London, baptised 16 Jan 1835, St Martins in the Fields, Middlesex. Resided Denby and was associated with the hosiery business and a farmer. Moved to Stanley in 1876 as general manager of the Stanley Kilburn Colliery. When this closed down he became agent for the Digby Colliery Company until his retirement in 1910. Keen Liberal, President and Treasurer of Stanley and West Hallam Liberal Association in 1887, and involved in election campaigns in the Ilkeston area from the 1860s. Grand Master of the Nottingham Ancient Imperial United Order of Oddfellows (lodge No. 41 Stanley Collieries), Stanley Parish Councillor, collector of land tax. Instigated the building of Stanley School. Became Justice of the Peace in 1912. Married (for the second time) to Eliza Soresby, 1886.
