Administrative History | Derby St James was originally part of the parish of St Peter's, Derby (for records of this see D1792).The church was built in 1866 and a district assigned the following year. A district chapelry of St Thomas was formed in 1883. Parts of the parish were also taken in the formation of St Chad's (for records see D2104) and St Bartholomew's. There were mission churches in Cotton Lane, opened in 1868 and St Dunstan's, opened in 1889 - this closed when St Bartholomew's church opened. The parish was due to cease functioning as an administrative unit in 1993, although the church itself was to continue in use as a centre for religious worship. |
