DescriptionThis map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:

To the Honourable Sr John Statham and the rest of the Gentlemen partners and owners of Ferns, alias Long Sough upon Cromford Moor and several veins theron depending. This plan of the said Sough and Mines is humbly inscribed by Saml. Hutchinson. [1709 - 1732]. Surveyor: [Samuel Hutchinson]. Scale: of 12 mears of ground with dividers. Size: 37 x 32 cm. Materials: [ink on paper backed on thicker paper.] Centred on: SK294557 Notes: late 18c copy inscribed E. Bowen on bottom corner, original not traced. Compass rose: fine ruled border: includes a terrier on the sheet detailing names of shafts and veins of Dove Gang and Godber Vein: shows area from Middleton Cross - west, Cromford - east: Steeple House in elevation, three other buildings, Cromford to Wirksworth road, Middleton to Wirksworth road.
