Administrative History
The first workhouse for Derby Poor Law Union was built on Osmaston Road in 1838. A new workhouse was built on Uttoxeter Road, 1876-1878. When the county council took over responsibility for the workhouses from the Boards of Guardians in 1930 it became known as Boundary House Public Assistance Institution. It was transferred to the National Health Service in 1948 and became known as Manor Hospital. In later years it was used as a hospital for the elderly. The hospital closed in 1988 and the building was demolished in 1992.
Custodial History
These records were deposited by the hospital, via Derby Museum Service, in April 1988 in Derbyshire Record Office shortly before the hospital's closure in May 1988.
