Administrative History | The Cow Hill Board school, Belper was built in 1878 and run by the Belper School Board. Originally this was a Mixed and Infants school, but in 1881 a separate Boys Board school was opened (known as Fleet School from 1883) - Girls and Infants departments shared the the other site. Board schools were taken over by the County Council in 1903. From June 1955, Senior pupils went to the Parks Secondary Modern School, leaving Junior children only at this school. A recorganisation of these schools took place in 1961-1962. In 1961 the Infants department moved to the former Boys school buildings, with the Girls school becoming a Junior Mixed school and Seniors transferred to either the Herbert Strutt Grammar School or the Parks Secondary Modern School. A further reorganisation in 1974 saw the Junior Mixed pupils transferred to Parks Middle school. The Fleet Infants school was thereafter known as Fleet First school. |
Custodial History | These records were transferred to the Derbyshire Record Office in July 1986, following the closure of Fleet First school on further re-organisation of Belper schools. |
