Date
1971-1988
Description
St Helen’s House had been purchased by the County Borough of Derby from Edward Strutt in 1863 and was used as Derby School until 1970. A centre for adult education was established by the Workers Education Association and University of Nottingham Extra-Mural Department at St Helen’s House in King Street, Derby in 1970. The building was also used as a teachers centre from the same date and was initially controlled by the Derby Borough Education Authority. In 1973 the Derby Borough Audio-Visual Aids Service moved into St Helen’s House. The centre provided a wide range of adult education including in-service training for teachers.
