Description	The records of the Derby East Circuit of the Methodist Church and some of its constituent chapels. Derby East Methodist Circuit was formed in 1954 under Rev John Leafe (Superintendent) and Rev Trevor Pearson. It comprised the following ten Churches from the east side of the old Derby Derwent: Spondon; Borrowash; Ockbrook; Draycott Central; Draycott Memorial; Chaddesden; Breadsall; Chaddesden, Mayfield Road; Morley Moor; and Dale Abbey. Ockbrook, Draycott Central, Chaddesden, Breasall, and Dale Abbey have all now closed down. Two new Churches were built in the Chaddesden area, both of which have since closed: Chesapeake Road (1957-1977), and St. Andrew's, Breadsall Hill Top (1963-1969). The remainder of the old Derby Derwent Circuit was amalgamated with the Derby Mission Circuit to form the Derwent Mission Circuit. The purchase of a plot of land on Bishops Drive, Oakwood by the Circuit in 1990 enabled the building of the 'Church of Oakwood', which opened for worship in 1993. This is an ecumenical venture run by the Anglican, United Reformed, Roman Catholic, and Methodist Churches. Two manses were taken over on the formation of Derby East Circuit. No.39 Sunny Grove, Chaddesden was sold in 1984 and replaced by No.55 Avondale Road, Spondon. No.31 Station Road, Borrowash was sold in 1986 and replaced by No.8 Balmoral Road, Borrowash. This in turn was sold in 1990 and a new manse was built on Church land at the rear of Borrowash Methodist Church at 2A Nursery Close. The Chaddesden Methodist Churches A Wesleyan Chapel was built on Chapel Lane in 1838. This became a private residence in 1933, which was later demolished to accommodate a new residence known as 'Chapel House'. The Church occupied the original Village School on Chaddesden Lane from 1933 to 1957, the school having moved to Morley Road. A Methodist Church was built on Scarborough Rise at Hill Top in 1963, but closed for worship in 1969 and was taken over by the Boy Scouts. Chesapeake Road Methodist Church was also part of the Derby East Circuit Dale Abbey Church The Methodist Chapel was estimated to have been built 1902. It was closed in 1983 and is now used by the Anglican Church. The land was originally leased by the Stanton Ironworks Co. Ltd. Ockbrook Church The Church on Green Lane closed for worship in 1982. It has since been demolished and replaced by a private house. Morley Moor Church The Methodist Chapel on Almshouse Lane was built in 1845. In September 2009, the Derby East Methodist Circuit merged with the two remaining circuits in Derby to form one Derby Methodist Circuit. These records were originally deposited by the Superintendent Minister at various dates between February 1986 and August 1989, and then by the Circuit Archivist at various dates between June 1991 and July 2002.
