Description
This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
The Manor of Croxal in Darby-shire Being part of ye Possessions of ye Right Honnorabble Charles earle of Dorset and Middlesex. n.d. [18th c.] Scale:of 40 chains [1:4000]. Size: 71 x 90 cm. Materials: coloured ink on stiff thick parchment. Centred on: SK196138 Notes: compass rose. Shows 1349 acreswith named fields, numbered and areas given: rivers Mese and Tame: church in elevation, other buildings in plan: adjacent counties shown: finely drawn and lettered: cartouche appears unfinished. Key gives further information added in pencil: endorsed 'Earl of Dorset and Middlesex Map of Croxal Derbyshire'. Location: Centre for Kentish Studies, U269/P10; copy in DRO, D293M/E1; DRO mf721
