Administrative History | Lewis Straw was active in the South Derbyshire Divisional Labour Party from 1918, when the seat was first contested by the party, until 1933. During this time he served as secretary, part-time agent and, from 1928, full time agent. He was also a member of Swadlincote UDC and, served as President of the Federation of Derbyshire Labour Parties. In 1929 the South Derbyshire seat was won for Labour by Major David Graham Pole, but lost again in the election of 1931. The next prospective candidate, Frank Lloyd, resigned suddenly in 1933. The collection includes copy minutes of the executive committee, detailed returns of election expenses and income, and a large amount of correspondence. |
