Administrative HistoryCHURCH GRESLEY, FORMERLY PRIMITIVE, METHODIST CIRCUIT (-1955)
The circuit was made up of the following chapels: Park (Church Gresley), Donisthorpe, Overseal, High Cross Banks (Castle Gresley), Chapel Street (Woodville), Albert Village, Linton Heath, Granville Estate (Woodville/Swadlincote), Hastings Road (Swadlincote) and Coton Park.

It amalgamated with the Woodville and Swadlincote Circuit in 1955 to form the South Derbyshire circuit.

WOODVILLE AND SWADLINCOTE, FORMERLY WESLEYAN, METHODIST CIRCUIT (-1955)
The circuit was made up of High Street (Woodville), West Street (Swadlincote), Ticknall, Hartshorne, Blackfordby, Smisby, Station Street (Castle Gresley), Coton in the Elms, Netherseal, York Road (Church Gresley), Main Street (Linton) and Acresford. The first seven chapels were formerly part of the Ashby-de-la-Zouch circuit.

The circuit amalgamated with Church Gresley in 1955 to form the South Derbyshire Circuit.

BURTON ON TRENT UNITED METHODIST CIRCUIT (-1955)
The chapels at Bretby, Chapel Street (Church Gresley), Church Street (Swadlincote), Midway Rowland Memorial (Swadlincote) and Central (Newhall) were former United Methodist or United Methodist Free churches and were formerly part of the Burton on Trent United Methodist circuit. Newhall Central, Midway and Bretby joined the Newhall and Woodville Circuit in 1962, which amalgamated with South Derbyshire in 1967. Chapel Street in Church Gresley and Church Street in Swadlincote had joined South Derbyshire in 1962.

The chapels at Bretby, Chapel Street (Church Gresley), Church Street (Swadlincote), Midway Rowland Memorial (Swadlincote) and Central (Newhall) were former United Methodist or United Methodist Free churches and were formerly part of the Burton on Trent United Methodist Circuit.

Newhall Central, Midway and Bretby joined the Newhall and Woodville Circuit in 1962, which amalgamated with South Derbyshire in 1967. Chapel Street in Church Gresley and Church Street in Swadlincote had joined South Derbyshire in 1962.

NEWHALL AND WOODVILLE CIRCUIT (1962-1967)
Woodville High Street, Blackfordby, Ticknall, Hartshorne and Smisby had formerly been part of the Woodville and Swadlincote circuit; Woodville Granville Estate and Woodville Chapel Street had formerly been part of the Church Gresley circuit. After amalgamating to form the South Derbyshire circuit in 1955, these chapels broke away in 1962 and, together with Newhall Central, Newhall Ebenezer, Newhall Wesley, Midway and Bretby, formed the Newhall and Woodville circuit. It was amalgamated back into South Derbyshire in 1967.

SOUTH DERBYSHIRE METHODIST CIRCUIT (1955-)
This circuit was formed in 1955 following the amalgamation of the Church Gresley and Woodville and Swadlincote circuits. Between 1962 and 1967, the following churches were in this circuit: Acresford, Albert Village, Castle Gresley High Cross Banks, Castle Gresley Station Street, Church Gresley Chapel Street, Church Gresley Park, Church Gresley York Road, Coton in the Elms, Coton Park, Donisthorpe, Linton Heath, Linton Main Street, Overseal, Netherseal, Swadlincote Church Street and Swadlincote, West Street.

The churches that had left this circuit to form the new Newhall and Woodville Circuit in 1962 (see above) rejoined the South Derbyshire circuit in 1967.
