This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:

[Hopton. c1680] Surveyor: [Peter Barker?] Scale: of 5 ?chains [1:1050] with dividers. Size: 52 x 65 cm. Materials: ink and paints on parchment. Centred on: SK259532 Notes: compass rose, south-west at top of sheet. Shows village with lands between 'Highway to Callow' on east and 'row of trees betweene Hopton and Carston' on west: a house named 'Steeple, the defendents' house': named closes, cottages, houses with two or more chimneys, elevation; one house detailed with named outbuildings (e.g. 'wayne house'), walled court, gateway arch, garden, 'walnut trees', roads and footpaths named, smithy and bowling alley, noted: all names in capitals, style associated with Peter Barker: made for law suit.
