Description
This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
[Partition of pasture ground commonly called the Hill] survay'd and prepared by us Henry Huss [of Derby], Paul Grice [of Derby] [April 1699]. Surveyor:.Henry Huss, Paul Grice. Scale: of 20 chains [1:3200]. Size: 30 x 60 cm. Materials: coloured ink on parchment. Centred on: SK2150 Notes: east at top of sheet. Shows about 185 acres between Kniveton village and the Upper side, private enclosure of pasture, divided into rectangular closes with areas and references: paths, gates, 'Boggy ground' noted: 'Knighton' depicted with distinctive church and houses: endorsed, 'The Mapp was showed to the above named [surveyors] the 1st of February 1699 at Derby at the time when they made affidavit before me concerning the same, W. Turner': a statement of area suggests 11 acres of the total needed to be allowed for walls, roads.
