Title
Agreement between John Gell of Hopton esq and Nicholas Twigg of Holme, Thomas Barker and Edward Buxton of Bakewell, Alexander Ellcock of Stockport [Cheshire], John Petty of Nottingham [Nottinghamshire], Jarvis Cartwright of Stockport, William Wilson of Wirksworth, George Tomlinson of Hopton, Peter Simpson of Bonsall, William Bods of Bakewell, William Frost of Middleton and John Thorpe of Bakewell, gents - whereas the Griffe and Griffe Walk and the lead ore therein are the property of Gell and not part of the King's Field and Twigg et al being desirous of driving a sough for the discovery of lead ore and unwatering and getting the same - for 21 years, Twigg et al may begin a sough at a swallow called Markdale within Griffe and drive the said sough through the Horse Close Vein, the Meadow Vein, Mathers Vein, Simpsons Vein, Wigleys or Fynesdale Rake and the veins lately worked by John Smith, with liberty to make drifts, sink shafts etc - Gell to have 1/9 of the ore and 6d a load for cope. 2 Dec
