| Administrative History | A separate school for girls with teacher’s house, in Duffield was built in 1870, largely with the help of benefactions from the friends of the late Parkin Jeffcock. Parkin Jeffcock (1829-1866) was born in Cowley, Derbyshire and became a mining engineer with J T Woodhouse of Derby. He lived at Duffield. In 1861 Jeffcock attempted to rescue miners trapped underground at Clay Cross and in December 1866 he was killed while attempting to rescue miners at the Oaks pit near Barnsley. The Duffield Infants’ School as opened, under the control of the Managers of the Girls School, in 1896. Under a Board of Education Scheme of 1903, the Managers of the Duffield Endowed CE School and of the Duffield girls and Infants CE School were grouped as one body as the Managers of the Duffield Voluntary Schools |
