Administrative HistoryThe old parish of Glossop was some 16 miles in length and 5 to 8 miles in width, and had two chapelries, Hayfield and Mellor. For the records of the parishes of Hayfield and Mellor, see D2426 and D3858 respectively. The parish included New Mills until 1831 (D3492); Whitfield (including Chunal) until 1836 (D2247); Charlesworth (inc. Chisworth and Simmondley) until 1849 (D4042); Hadfield (inc. Padfield) until 1874 (D1779); Dinting until 1875 (D3986); and Chinley with Buxworth (inc. Brownside) until 1908.
