Administrative History | The joint township of Newbold and Dunston was in the parish of Chesterfield, St Mary and All Saints, until 1841, when it became part of the new parish of Holy Trinity, Chesterfield. The church of St John the Evangelist, Newbold, was first built in 1857 as a chapel of ease to Holy Trinity, Chesterfield, becoming the centre of a separate ecclesiastical district in 1861, which also took in areas formerly in the parishes of St Thomas, Brampton, and Whittington. All links with the parish of Chesterfield were severed in November 1863, and the benefice became a rectory in 1867. See also D2262 for other parish records of Newbold |
Custodial History | The records were deposited in Derbyshire Record Office in a number of consignments beginning in 1981 (including an unlisted accession in Dec 2016, see D2398/UL). This list was added to the online catalogue as part of the FindersKeepers project, with the help of Elissa Rowe. |
