Title
Ralph Fisher to William Philp Perrin: returns thanks for Perrin's kindness to him; the voyage went well; "within ten leagues of Barbados we fell in with one privateer, a fine sloop indeed, mounting fourteen guns ... she chased us for near two hours in which time we had got everything in order and expected to come to action. When they came, however, almost within reach of our guns (for she had much the advantage in point of sailing), and perceiving the packet's trim, they thought proper to sheer off, at which our people seemed greatly mortified - though I confess for my own part it was to me no disappointment". The attorney of Mount Pleasant appears to have learned of Perrin's intentions as a possible purchaser; this may well mean he tries to get the price raised.
