| Administrative History | Frances Julia Caroline Harpur Crewe (1887-1960) was the fourth daughter and fifth child of Sir Vauncey and Isabel. In 1917 in London she married Arthur William Jenney. The couple were related through the marriage in 1827 of Frances Crewe's great great uncle, Henry Robert Crewe and Arthur Jenney's aunt, Frances Caroline Jenney. Frances and Arthur Jenney subsequently lived in Merton Road, Bedford. There were three children of this marriage: Charles (who later inherited Calke Abbey in 1949 and changed his surname to Harpur-Crewe in 1961), Airmyne and Henry (who succeeded to the estate on the death of Charles in 1981). For a brief period in 1958 Frances Jenney legally changed her surname to Fynderne, presumably in order to meet an inheritance requirement.
Arthur William Jenney (1860-1934) was born at Drayton Beauchamp, Buckinghamshire, the son of Arthur Henry and Eliza Geraldine Jenney. He was educated at the school in Lowestoft operated by Margaret and Ellen Ringer, and at Haileybury School. He became a stockbroker, living in Market Street, Mayfair, London. As mentioned above, he married Frances Harpur Crewe in 1917. Arthur Jenney died at Calke and was buried there. |
