Title
Handwritten letter from Dora Axon to Charles Ogden
Date
14 Nov 1948
Description
Expresses hope that the arrangements Ogden has been making in relation to Basic English prove satisfactory. Comments on his indexing work at Montague Street. Mentions sale of Haddon Hall [Buxton] and Limehurst and dispersal of residents: the Grundy- Heapes are moving to Wychwood. Mentions references in B[uxton] A[dvertiser] to Grundy-Heapes's book about Buxton history. Asks whether December is a good time for an auction in Buxton. Reports receipt of £200 following the sale of an uncle's house in Manchester. Gives financial details from, and comments on a letter from P[ublic] T[rustee]. Is as yet undecided about what to do about the houses. Pleased that she was out when two women called: suspects they were Geoff's wife and friend. Discusses pleasing aspects of her job: preparation for opening the branch library. Mentions amount spent on library books by Derbyshire Co[unty Council] and consequent high standard of book stock. Describes concession of shorter lunch hour which allows her to leave in time for an earlier bus. Fearful that her start at Whaley Bridge will coincide with snowy weather. Gives details of her wage. Describes her satisfactory tenants. Asks whether Ogden is alone in Gordon Square.
