Title
Handwritten letter from Dora Axon to Charles Ogden
Date
20 Apr 1948
Description
Will await any suggestions about books from his legal friends. Discusses infomation from Public Trustee and Ed Smith about the effect of Geoff and Flo foregoing their claim to the books; but expresses misgivings about various options. Asks for clarification of Ogden's suggestion of giving some items away. Reflects wryly on earlier suggestions of Dr Harr., Mr Moseley, and Robinson of the British Library and indicates her conviction that Geoff would challenge any ploy. Asks Ogden's advice about whether to get a copy of probate document from Hampsons and about whether she should continue with indexing of letters. Reports finding an index made by Ernest to the "filthy" books prevously mentioned. Asks about the value of a folded leaf of suppressed passages from Apuleius' Golden Ass in Taylor's translation. Intends to send Ogden a manuscript (of Ernest's father's) of Little Billee; a copy of Veg[etarian] Mess[enger]; and the "Sun", her property from her uncle Wardle. Has been offered a secretarial job by Dr Nev Harburn: discusses whether to accept and asks Ogden's opinion. Discusses plumbing work and possible re-arrangement of rooms and furniture. Explains her understanding of some provisions of Ernest's will: refers to a grandson as "dreadful". Expresses pleasure at progress with Basic. Describes recent walks. Will watch for a newspaper notice about Cuthbert Kelly and mentions death of Linton.
