Title
Booth Family of Eckington
Date
c.1718 - c.1943
Description
This small collection of deeds and papers relates to the Booth family, in the 18th c of Eckington parish, but later successively of Sheffield and Ashover. A small group of deeds (copies of court roll with a copy will, 1718-1781) relating to a small property in Ridgeway shows the Booths described as sicklesmith, yeoman or bend-ware-maker, and an apprenticeship indenture of 1810 also describes George Booth as a bendware maker. This apprenticeship indenture, however, apprenticed John Booth to William Stockil of Sheffield a currier, and John probably continued in Sheffield as a currier and leather cutter for he bought his master's goods, furniture and stock in trade in 1820. William Stockall's own apprenticeship to a currier of Thirsk in 1767 is also in this collection together with various papers relating to the valuation of his goods about the time of the sale to John Booth. The remainder of the documents are of a miscellaneous nature, 1850-[1943]
