Administrative HistoryEcclesiastically the parish contains or contained the mother church of St George and St Mary at Church Gresley, the chapel of Holy Trinity also at Church Gresley (opened 1903, closed January 1932; briefly re-opened May 1932-July 1934 while the mother church was repaired), and the chapel of ease of Christ Church, Linton, built in 1881. There are separate series of registers for the chapels of ease. Geographically, the parish originally contained the townships of Church Gresley, Castle Gresley, Linton, Drakelowe, Swadlincote, and parts of Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe, the latter two now in Leicestershire. Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe became a separate parish in 1838, and Swadlincote in 1846. Some stray parish records are deposited in the Record Office, ref D2791.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited at various dates from 1979. . This list was added to the online catalogue as part of the FindersKeepers project, with the help of Elissa Rowe.
