Archive CreatorPleasley Works British School
Administrative HistoryMessrs William Hollins & co, established a school at Pleasley Vale in the early 1860s to serve the children of their employees in their cotton, merino [wool], and silk spinning mills there. It was a British School, that is, supported by the British and Foreign Bible Society. The school passed into the control of Derbyshire County Council, as the Local Education Authority, in 1903. It closed on 29 November 1947 and children at the school transferred either to Pleasley Hill School or to Oxclose Lane Junior School, Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts.
Custodial HistoryThese records were transferred to Derbyshire Record Office in 1974 (formerly D629) and in 1978.
