Further information: Tideswell worked as a driver of a loader belt at time of appeal. Syptoms had included 'dizzy bouts when at work. Could not stand powerful cap lamps.[…] He does not know where he is when on the job'. Opthalmic specialist report stated: 'Still no actual Miners nystagmus observed though photophobia and subjective symptoms such as giddyness on work in the dark is present. The case should be regarded as a light one with a favourable but perhaps protracted prognosis.' Had worked underground for 35 years at the time of the appeal.
